Negro Teachers Arrested For Having Sex With Student

Decatur, GA
Two negro teachers at DeKalb County's predominately black Miller Grove High School were jailed last week accused of having sex with a 17 year old student.

Clarence Hicks, a 28 year old history teacher and baseball coach along with Eubie Lewis, a 29 year old special education teacher were booked into the Dekalb County Jail last Sunday after being charged with sexual assault against a person in custody.

Investigators say that the suspects had sex with the victim at a residence in the DeKalb County community of Stone Mountain. The negroes are also charged with supplying alcohol to a minor.

They were granted bail at a hearing on Tuesday.
"The state has an interest in protecting school children," the judge said. "You're a school teacher and you're alleged of having taken a child away from school grounds, getting her intoxicated and having sex with her. That's what the allegation is. So the state says we have an interest in protecting children."

Both negroes were bailed out of jail on Tuesday afternoon. Parents and students were shocked by the incident. "I was shocked," said student Marcus Eccles. "That was my baseball coach, and I didn't know. I was really shocked."

"How many other students have been subjected to this man, these men? And what else have they done? I'm sure it didn't just happen last week," said parent Erica Ray.

Lewis also has legal trouble stemming from an incident in Virginia where authorities had issued a fugitive warrant for Lewis last year. He was wanted on a charge of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute. When they located him in DeKalb County, Georgia, in August, they had him arrested and brought to Virginia. Lewis was released and returned to Miller Grove High School where he continued to teach until his arrest last week.
