Georgia Tech Employee Arrested On Felony Charges Of Forgery And Identity Theft

Atlanta, GA

An investigation by Georgia Tech's office of internal auditing and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has led to the arrest of a Jonesboro woman on charges that she stole the identity of an Illinois resident and used that information to steal over $10,000 from the school.

Merideth Durrah, 38, who worked as a program coordinator in the College of Sciences, faces felony charges related to the incident in which GBI officials says Durrah forged a letter from a professor at Georgia Tech offering the woman a job, then stole at east two payroll checks in the amount of $5,100 each from the school issued in the woman's name.

The investigation began after the Illinois woman was denied employment in her home state following a background check with showed she had not paid taxes on the funds from Georgia Tech.

"This woman had access to privileged information with respect to the person in Illinois," said John Bankhead, GBI spokesman. "How she got access to that information is still under investigation."

Durrah has been terminated from her position at the school and faces felony charges of forgery and theft by taking. Officials say other charges may be filed.

Fugitive Dekalb County Cop Captured In Belize

Punta Gorda, Belize

Following a lead given to the US Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service, police arrested fugitive Dekalb County Sheriffs Deputy Derrick Yancey in a bar in Punta Gorda, Belize.

Yancey is accused of murdering his 44 year old wife Linda Yancey (who was also a Dekalb police officer) and Marcial Cax Puluc, a 20 year old immigrant "day laborer", inside the Yancey's Stone Mountain, Georgia home in August of 2008. Yancey claimed that the day laborer had shot his wife and then he shot the day laborer. Yancey was arrested after ballistics tests confirmed that he had killed both victims.

On August 28, 2008 Dekalb Superior Court Judge Anne Workman ordered that the accused double murderer was to be released on bond and placed under "house arrest". On April 4, 2009, Yancey cut the electronic monitoring device off his ankle and fled from his mother's Clayton county home, where he had been living under "house arrest".

Yancey remained on the run for five months and was profiled on America's Most Wanted. He's also included in the show's "Cops On The Wrong Side Of The Law" feature.

Police in Belize say Yancey was taken into custody without incident in a bar in southern Belize on September 19, 2009.

"We had his photograph in our possession and upon identifying ourselves, he just handed over himself. There was no resistance in his arrest," said Inspector Andres Makin of the Punta Gorda Police Station.

Yancey will be extradited back to Georgia to face prosecution.

Court Issues 'Slap On The Wrist' For Court Employee In Ticket Fixing Scam

Decatur, GA

Last week Dekalb County Superior Court Judge Cynthia Becker handed down sentences against former court employee Charlene Johnson and local clothing store owner Sonia Williams for their part in a long running ticket fixing scheme. Six others were arrested during the investigation.

Johnson (pictured at left) pleaded guilty to violating the public trust, using her position in at the Recorder's Court to have cases dismissed in exchange for money. Williams pleaded guilty to bringing tickets to Johnson and giving Johnson cash or "store discounts" in exchange for having cases dismissed.

The two were charged with 171 criminal charges, including violations of the Georgia Racketeer Influenced And Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). Johnson admitted to netting over $20,000 from the scheme over the last three years. Johnson was sentenced to 20 years, but ordered to serve only 12 months and to pay restitution, while Williams was sentenced to five years, but ordered to serve only 30 days.

Former Sheriff's Deputy Jumps Bond On Murder Charges

Decatur, GA
The Dekalb County Fugitive Squad is searching for a former policeman who jumped bond while awaiting trial on charges that he murdered his wife and a day laborer in 2008.

Former Dekalb County Sheriff's Deputy Derrick Yancey was out of jail under a $150,000 bond and under house arrest when he cut off an electronic monitoring device on Friday and disappeared from his mother's Clayton County home.

According to sheriff's department spokesperson Lt. Billi Akins, Yancey had been staying at his mother and stepfather’s home in Jonesboro awaiting an undetermined trial date and was last seen there Friday night.

“He was an electronic monitor and was restricted to the house,” Akins said late Saturday night. “We received info that he cut the bracelet off and left his residence.”

Yancey, 49, was indicted in August of last year when he was accused in the June 2008 double murder of his 44 year old wife, Linda Yancey and a day laborer, Marcial Puluc. Linda Yancey was also an officer on the Dekalb County police force.

Yancey claimed that he had shot Puluc after discovering that the 20 year old day laborer had killed his wife. Investigators said lab tests showed Yancey shot both victims.

Police say the fugitive should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police Evacuate Local Electronics Store After Shoplifter Claims To Have A Gun

Smyrna, GA
At least three stores in the Promenade shopping center were evacuated Thursday night after Smyrna police responded to a report of a shoplifter with a weapon at the Best Buy store on Cobb Parkway.

Otis Hutcherson, a 51 year old negro from Atlanta attempted to shoplift eight DVDs from the electronics retailer and claimed to have a gun to have a gun when confronted by store staff.

Police evacuated the store and two adjoining businesses after Hutherson went into the Best Buy office and fled into the ceiling of the building. “It would’ve been unsafe for an officer to just pop his head up through one of the panels not knowing whether the suspect had a gun,” said Michael Smith, spokesman for the Smyrna Police Department.

After a 90 minute stand off, Hutcherson came down from the ceiling and was taken into custody. Police later determined that the suspect was not armed. Huctherson was arrested on charges of shoplifing and may face other charges.

Hispanic Teen Arrested In Cobb County Hiking Trail Attack

Powder Springs, GA
Police in Powder Springs have arrested a 19 year old hispanic man in connection with a violent attack and another attempted robbery that occurred on a local hiking trail in the Cobb County town earlier this week.

Carlos Bracamonte was arrested on Thursday night and charged in connection with the assaults which took place along the Silver Comet Trail.

On Monday a Cobb County man reported that he was approached on the trail by a hispanic and four black men who demanded money, patted him down and released him after finding that he was carrying no cash.

As the man fled the area he came across another man, bloodied and beaten lying along the trail. Police reports indicate that the man was also attacked by the same perpetrators. He was treated for severe injuries at a local hospital and later released.

Then on Wednesday, the man who was beaten was again approached by four men dressed in black and wearing masks near Forest Hill Road. He was warned not to speak of the attack, one of the masked men telling him “We seen you on TV. Don’t be running that mouth", as they attacked him for a second time punching and kicking him.

Bracamonte's bail was set at $5,000 and he is being held in the Cobb County jail. Police are still searching for the four black men and say they may have been driving a white Chevrolet Caprice Classic with a drive-out tag during the attacks.

Online Petition: Jail For Hospital Employee Who Stole From Dead/Dying

In May of 2008, scumbag "social worker" Tacuma Jawara was arrested after police learned he had stolen jewelry from the bodies of deceased patients at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital.

Since his arrest in the case involving wedding rings stolen from the late Katherine Armstrong, a wife and mother of two small children who was killed in a tragic automobile accident in April, at least two more families have come forward with allegations that Jawara had stolen from members of their families while they were patients at the hospital. Aside from the theft of Mrs. Armstrong's jewelry, Jawara has been arrested on additional charges of stealing a wedding ring from another man and stealing money orders from the purse of another female patient.

It has recently been brought to our attention that the courts are failing the public in this matter, as they often do. There is a high possibility that this scumbag will be turned back out on the streets.

One of my dearest friends was killed in a horrific auto accident on April 30th. A Loomis (armored) truck stalled out of gas in the center lane of a busy Atlanta interstate and my friend hit it. The driver of the truck has been charged with vehicular homicide and my friend has been cleared of any fault in the accident. She leaves behind a husband and two young children, ages 1.5 and 4 (at the time of the accident).

To make matters worse, her one of a kind wedding and engagement rings were stolen from her body at the hospital where she was airlifted following the accident. It was determined that the man assigned to log victim's personal items and to tend to the victim's family is the person who stole (and pawned) her rings.

Fortunately, her rings were recovered from an Atlanta-area pawn shop and the hospital employee was charged with felony theft by taking. It has since been discovered that he stole from another victim and he has been charged with a second count of theft.

The DA has consolidated the cases, so the most this man can serve is ten years for both counts. If the DA had prosecuted the cases separately, the scum who stole her rings could have gotten ten years for each count. Unfortunately, the DA and the judge in this case are pretty jail-averse...very unfortunate as this man is so worthy of being locked up for a long time. The DA offered this man 4-6 months (yes, MONTHS) in jail, but fortunately Alan (Katherine's husband) and another victim of Jawara, named Ron Goyette were able to compel the judge to throw the plea deal out and set a court date.

DeKalb Police Can't Protect Merchants From Gangs Of Feral Negroes

Tucker, GA

Saturday night police apprehended only one of five negroes who entered DeKalb County's Northlake Mall around 8p.m. and smashed the glass in a jewelry display case at the Charms Of Gold kiosk and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of jewelry. Police recovered some of the stolen jewelry. The four other suspects remain at large.

As a result of the growing number of smash and grab thefts and robberies in the county many DeKalb businesses are closing. At least eight jewelry stores and kiosks at DeKalb's Northlake Mall closed their doors on Sunday and announced that they will remain closed indefinitely due rising black crime in the area and an overall lack of ability by local law enforcement to protect them from roving bands of feral negroes.

Amin Lalani, owner of Charms Of Gold, said they have been hit by smash and grab robbers three times this month and have lost over $30,000 in merchandise. "They have the hammer in hand. They're wearing gloves. They smash and grab whatever thay can", Lalani told reporters.

Shawn Patel says his jewelry store, located inside Northlake Mall, has also been the target of thieves within the past few months. "We're closing tomorrow. All the stores. All the jewelry stores. We're sick of it. We can't afford anymore. DeKalb County cannot offer us protection. We don't have any choice," said Patel.

Savage Negroes Kill White Family's Dogs During Home Invasion Burglary

Chattahoochee Hills, GA

Three negroes broke into the home of a White family last week in south Fulton county and shot the family's two dogs.

Brandon Pettis, 20, Reshard Harris, 18, and an unidentified 16 year old negro where stopped for speeding and arrested after leaving the home with a truck load of computers and lawn equipment, which they had stolen from the home of Louise Liles and her husband, Richard Denby.

"My dogs were murdered," said Liles, the owner mourning the deaths of Miya, a 2-year-old Lab, and 6-year-old Ginger, a hound mix.

Denby told police that he is certain that he would have been murdered as well had he been at the residence at the time. "They let the police know that they were here to do whatever they had to do and anybody that got in their way they were going to take care of them," he explained.

The feral negroes broke into the home and shot the Lab on the livingroom floor and then fired a shotgun in the direction of the bed on which the other dog was sleeping, killing it also.

All three of the savages have been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and burglary. Harris and Pettis are being held at the Fulton County jail, while the underaged negro was released to the custody of his parents.

Negro Arrested In Violent Home Invasion

Decatur, GA

A suspect in a violent home invasion which occurred in Decatur last month was arrested by DeKalb police during a traffic stop on Tuesday.

Police say a 26 year old negro, Khari Troutman was one of at least three negroes who attacked a Decatur family on June 11, 2008, as they pulled into the driveway of their home in the Laruelgate subdivision off Lavista Road. Troutman is charged with armed robbery and kidnapping in relation to the incident.

The negroes forced Suzanne Ledet and her children inside the home at gunpoint, then tied up Mrs. Ledet, her husband, Striling, and the children, pistol whipped them and demanded money. The woman was able to escape and run for help as the attackers tried to force the husband to give them money.

After learning of Troutman's arrest on Tuesday, Mr. Ledet told local news reporters, "A feeling of somewhat relief, that at least one more thug, one less violent criminal...but there's still a lot more out there,"

"If my wife had not heroically rescued us, we would be dead. There's no doubt in my mind we would have been killed," said Ledet.

The two other negroes remain at large.

Nebraska Fugitive Arrested In Atlanta

Atlanta, GA

A 24 year old shooting suspect from Omaha, Nebraska was arrested in an Atlanta suburb over the holiday weekend in connecting with the shooting of a Nebraska woman last month.

Jamal Abram was apprehended on charges of attempted murder and will be extradited back to Nebraska.

The charge stems from the shooting of a former girlfriend of Abram's cousin, whom Abram suspected may have had some connection to the cousin's suicide last year.

Omaha police believe Abram shot a 24-year-old woman several times in the back on June 23. The woman is still recovering from her injuries.

Augusta Holiday Celebration Turns Deadly

Augusta, GA

A Richmond County woman has been charged with one count of Involuntary Manslaughter and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime following what police term an "accidental shooting" during a July 4th holiday celebration in Augusta.

23 year old Katato Casandra Utley was arrested when police responded to a call at 1727 Hicks Street and found that 42 year old Karen Franklin, who was visiting her boyfriends family, had been shot in the chest after Utley, the boyfriend's sister, had picked up a .25 caliber pistol and fired into the air in celebration of the 4th of July.

Police reports indicate the Utley fired the gun until it was empty and then reloaded the gun, firing a shot that struck Franklin in the chest. Franklin was rushed to a local hospital where she later died. The incident is still under investigation and Utley is being held in the Richmond County Jail.

Negro Pedophile SWAT Standoff In West End Atlanta

Atlanta, Ga.

When police attempted to serve a child molestation warrant at an apartment complex on Hollywood Road, in west Atlanta, around 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, they found their 25 year old suspect, Lewis Abram barricaded in a bedroom closest with an assault rife.

A ten hour standoff and shootout in which 30 - 40 shots were fired ensued. The standoff ended about 7:45 p.m., after SWAT officers led Abram out of the house. There were apparently no injuries during the shootout. Makes you wonder about law enforcement weapons training.

Abram had been accused of enticing children between the ages of 5 and 9 into is apartment and molesting them.

The incident began when three deputy marshals went to Abram's apartment on Hollywood Road in The Park at Scotts Crossing apartment complex to serve a warrant against him on a charge of child molestation, Johnson said.

Someone let officers inside Abram's apartment, but the trio retreated and called for backup when they discovered Abram holed up in his bedroom with an automatic weapon, Johnson said.

A woman then fled the apartment.

Floyd County Police Search For Murderer

Rome, Ga.

Police in Rome Georgia are searching for 34 year old Theron Ramon Plummer, who murdered his 39 year old wife in front of the couple's two children over the Memorial Day weekend.

Reports say Plummer had returned from taking the children to breakfast on Sunday morning, when he argued with Kimberly Ware Plummer and then gunned her down as their two children, a 5 year old daughter and a 16 year old son looked on.

Plummer, who is considered armed and dangerous, was last seen driving a silver 1993 Cadillac Deville with Georgia license plate number ACA 1683. He is believed to still be in the Floyd County area. Police ask anyone with information regarding Plummer or his whereabouts to call 911 or Floyd County police at 706-235-7766.

Scumbag "Social Worker" Jailed In Second Hospital Theft

Atlanta, Ga.

Grady Memorial Hospital social worker, Tacuma Jawara has been arrested for the second time in less than a week in relation to stealing jewelry from patients at the medical facility.

Jawara turned himself in last week after police determined he had removed wedding rings valued at approximately $5,000 from the finger of Katherine Armstrong, a White woman who had died at the hospital after being involved in an automobile accident last month. Those rings were found in a local pawn shop.

The second victim was Ron Goyette who arrived at Grady Memorial following an auto accident on April 21 and was not expected to live. Goyette however made it out of the hospital but his wedding ring and a necklace valued at $600 did not. Police later found his jewelry in a pawn shop, having been pawned by Jawara. In an interview with local news stations Jawara's nephew stated he had taken Jawara to pawn the late Mrs. Armstrong's rings and that Jawara often pawned jewelry.

SCLC Hasn't Filed Tax Report In Three Years

Atlanta, GA

The Associated Press reports that the Atlanta based Southern Christian Leadership Conference, a group founded by communist agitators following the civil rights protests in the 1960s, has failed to file required financial reports with the Internal Revenue Service since 2005.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference said it will catch up on submitting financial reports to the Internal Revenue Service.

The agency said the civil rights group hasn't filed a report for nearly three years.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the lag in Monday's edition, the day before what would have been Martin Luther King Jr.'s 79th birthday. King co-founded the SCLC in 1957.

The IRS nonprofit hot line said the SCLC has not filed a financial report with the IRS since February 2005. Nonprofit organizations such as the SCLC are required to file such reports annually to account for donations.

The SCLC has raised more than $6 million since President Charles Steele took office three years ago.

Steele said Monday that the SCLC would file the late documents within 45 days and make those reports available to the public.

The group had unpaid employee taxes totaling tens of thousands of dollars in 2004, an issue Steele said has been resolved. Steele said the organization currently has an annual operating budget of between $1.2 million and $1.5 million, and that he hopes to raise the budget to $5 million.

Tennessee Footballer "Pacman" Jones Gets Away With Smacking Up Lawyer In Atlanta Strip Club

Atlanta, GA

A female attorney who had accused Tennessee Titians footballer Adam "Pacman" Jones of punching her in the eye at an Atlanta strip club in early January has dropped charges against the suspended NFL cornerback, just a month after Jones plead no contest to disorderly conduct charges stemming from a 2007 Las Vegas strip club shooting that left one man paralyzed.

Attorney Wanda Jackson has withdrawn her petition for Jones' arrest. The incident supposedly happened on January 3rd in the office of the Body Tap strip club during a confrontation between Jones and the owners of the club, who Jones had accused of stealing money and jewelry from him.

Jackson had claimed that Jones "sucker punched" her as she watched this confrontation. News agencies were unable to contact her for comments.

Jones has been arrested at least six times since 2005, including two arrests involving violent incidents in Atlanta.

Woman Attacks Police Officer In Athens Grocery Store

Athens, GA

An Athens area Kroger store has been the scene of yet another assault against a police officer, the second such assault in just over a month. In December 2007, a man attacked and stabbed Sgt. Courtney Gale, who still remains hospitalized.

In the second attack a woman, Shakeena Davis, attacked Officer Charles Snyder and wrestled away his firearm before being pepper sprayed by the policeman. Both were taken to area hospitals for evaluation.

A woman grabbed an Athens police officer's handgun during a scuffle at the same grocery store where another officer was stabbed last month, police said.

Lt. Mike Tyndell said Officer Charles Snyder's injuries in the attack about 7 p.m. Monday at the Kroger store are not believed to be serious. Tyndell said the off-duty officer was working in uniform as a store security guard and approached a woman identified as Shakeena Davis of Athens, after someone told him the woman was wanted on felony warrants.
